I was reading in Genesis 4 this morning and Abel's offering caught my eye. It states he gave of the first and he gave of the fat animal. He made his sacrifice a priority and he gave what what precious. It says the Lord took notice of that. We see Cain had an offering that was not revered. It seems logical that his parents would of instructed him concerning the events surrounding Genesis 3:21, where the Lord first made animal sacrifice as a covering. Someone classified his offering as ''dead religion".
There was no heart behind it. He probably went to church without any expectation or without entering the gates with thanksgiving or the courts with praise.
Sometimes we can just go through the same motions. Please keep us from that Lord.
I hope we can follow the example of Abel. Heartfelt service in response to the ultimate sacrifice made on our behalf. Lord,by your Spirit work in us and may we work out the grace you have imparted to us in loving response for all the awesome things you have done.
Happy fourth of July to all of you! Praying for your 4th outreach in Brandon.
